I’ve never read a Patterson novel
Synopsis
TV series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels. Alex Cross uses forensic psychology to analyze killers' minds, mining into victims' psyches to identify murderers and bring them to justice.. Aldis Hodge discusses playing the lead and producing the crime-drama "Cross," what he should be known for as an actor and a producer, and his commitment to promoting diverse narratives through his production work.. Hodge is the third actor to portray Cross, following in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first played him onscreen in 1997& #39;s Kiss the Girls and again in the 2001 movie sequel Along Came a Spider; and Tyler Perry as the titular character in 2012’s Alex Cross, which bombed at the box office and led Lionsgate to scrap the preplanned sequel Double Cross.. I see them in the grocery stores..
There’s nothing really original here
I guess he must be popular.Anyway, I watch Prime (despite the commercials) mostly for documentaries, but this show "Cross" popped up and I thought to give it a try. I watched all 8 episodes.Cross is an amalgam of "Luther" and "The Wire". Seriously. Both Luther and The Wire are probably better, but Cross isn’t bad. I’m glad I stuck with it to the end.HOWEVER — it does have Aldis Hodge and for those of you who are Leverage fans…
He’s disturbing and upsetting and awful
his character is very similar but way more fleshed out (he’s the star of Cross). I really enjoy his physicality and he’s great to watch. I loved Leverage.Ryan Eggold plays the villain and OMG he’s… he’s a way over the top villain. What a shock to see him like this after his "How can I help?" role in New Amsterdam?
So, again, approach with cautionI recommend the series
He looks like he really enjoyed this role. This is a good series although it drags a bit mid-way (I think they could have done it in six episodes instead of eight by tightening it up a bit).BTW we know very early on (way before Cross and the MPD in general) who the villain is. This knowledge makes everything more tense for the viewer. It’s also violent and gory. It is a serial killer series and without giving anything away, it goes down the serial killer as main character rabbit hole. I did fast forward through some of the scenes that were clearly going to be upsetting for me.Coming at this without any context at all, I found the Cross background in psychology interesting. It’s a sort of profiler kind of thing he does, but he gets in the heads of his suspects and it’s quite (as I said) interesting.I think there are some aspects of this show — some scenes — that I will continue to be disturbed about for a while.
